How do we calculate our nutritional information?
EverydayDiabeticRecipes.com uses the USDA nutritional information database. The USDA classifies thousands of foods and gives their nutritional analysis. We rely on this data to calculate the nutritional totals on our recipes. If the USDA doesn't have an ingredient on their list for nutritional analysis, we make every effort to obtain nutritional information for that ingredient from a food label, if possible. If an ingredient's nutrition can't be identified, we can't include it in our calculations and we will identify it underneath the nutritional information for that recipe. As the USDA updates their database, we update ours, too.

Nutritional totals are figured on a per-serving basis and include all foods in the ingredients list. We simply total the nutritional information for all ingredients in the recipe, and divide by the number of servings. This is the per-serving nutritional information.
If a range is given for an ingredient amount, we use the lower number. For example, if a recipe calls for 1 to 2 cups of cheese, we calculate nutrition based on 1 cup.
Some ingredients are included in the nutritional data, even though they will not actually be consumed. We're unable to account for ingredients that are only used in preparation and then disposed – for example, marinade ingredients or oil for deep-frying. Thus, be aware the nutritional facts may seem inflated as a result of this.
Optional ingredients or ingredients without specific measurements, such as "salt & pepper to taste," "confectioners' sugar for dusting" or "orange slices for garnish" are not included in the nutritional calculation.
