Our Nutty Apple Bars are a healthy take on all your favorite American apple classics. Pecans and vanilla extract add all the flavors you've come to know and love, minus the added fat, sugar and calories.

What You'll Need

  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups chopped apples, like Granny Smith
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a 8-inch square baking pan with cooking spray.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk the egg whites, sugar, and vanilla for 1-1/2 minutes or until frothy. Whisk in flour and baking powder until blended. Fold in apples and pecans. Pour into prepared pan.

  3. Bake 23 to 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.

Our recipes shouldn't take the place of your doctor's recommendations. Certainly everything needs to be eaten in moderation. If you can't have any sugar, perhaps you can use Splenda in place of the sugar.

These recipes are not for diebetics, they have sugar. You can do better than this. I signed up because I can't have sugar. Show me deserts without sugar.

You can replace the sugar with an all NATURAL sweetener called "Stevia". I have used it for years. Very good and it does not leave any aftertaste like some artificial sweeteners.
