What You'll Need

  • 1 6-lb. bone-in smoked ham
  • 3/4 cup apple butter
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar-free maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Score the ham with a paring knife through the skin and fat in a tight crosshatch pattern. Place the ham, fat side up, in a large roasting pan. Bake 1 hour.
  2. Whisk the apple butter, mustard, brown sugar, syrup and cloves in a bowl until smooth. Brush the ham with half the glaze and bake for 15 more minutes.
  3. Brush remaining glaze over ham and bake another 15 minutes or until ham is heated through.

Leaving out the brown sugar and just using the SF maple syrup we make should make quite a difference in the Carb Count of this recipe. I am not sure why we would want to use brown sugar on a protein when there are other choices.

Hi there. The brown sugar helps the outside of the ham caramelize. However, you can absolutely leave it out and use only the syrup. Enjoy!

This is the best glazed ham my husband and I have made in our 46 years of marriage. Will definitely make it again.

where do I find apple Butter or can I make my own ? thanks Liz

Hi Liz, Most grocery stores carry apple butter in the same section where you would find the peanut butter, jellies, and preserves. Enjoy!
