Call the fire department, 'cause these onions are red hot! If you love tongue-tingling dishes, then our Spicy Onions are for you! Everything is diabetes diet-friendly, and sure to add excitement to mealtime.

What You'll Need

  • 3 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot red pepper sauce
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar

What to Do

  1. Place onions in a large bowl. Pour boiling water over onions and let stand 1 minute; drain.

  2. In a small bowl, combine pepper sauce, oil, and vinegar. Pour over onions, cover, and refrigerate at least 3 hours. Drain before serving.

We retested the recipe and substituted sweet onions, such as Vidalia, for the red onions. We hope you'll give it another try.

I'm sorry to hear these didn't work out for you. We'll bring them back to the test kitchen and make sure the recipe is correct.

I have to wonder if this recipe was really tested. The raw onion flavor is so overpowering that you can't get even a hint of the taste of the dressing. I had to throw the whole thing out.
