Our Swedish Meatballs are a classic dinner favorite. Serve them with your favorite veggies for a complete meal that always satisfies. Once you make these easy meatballs, you may find yourself making them a few times a week!

What You'll Need

  • 1 teaspoon canola oil
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 pound extra-lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 3/4 cup reduced-sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 cup fat-free sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon flour

What to Do

  1. In a small skillet over medium heat, heat oil and saute onions and garlic 3 to 4 minutes, or until soft.
  2. In a large bowl, combine beef, sauteed onions and garlic, bread crumbs, parsley, egg, water, and allspice; mix well. Form mixture into 20 meatballs.
  3. In a deep skillet over medium-high heat, bring broth to a boil. Add meatballs, cover, reduce heat to low, and cook for 15 minutes or until no longer pink in center, stirring occasionally. Remove meatballs with a slotted spoon to a bowl.
  4. Remove 1/2 cup of broth to a bowl, whisk in flour. Slowly whisk flour mixture into broth and cook until thickened. Stir in sour cream and add meatballs back to skillet. Heat for 5 minutes and serve.

Meatballs are delicious, the sauce was a bit thin but very tasty. I will make it again!

How much sour cream?

Hi there! This recipe calls for 1/2 cup fat-free sour cream. Enjoy!

what can you use instead of sour cream? This recipe sounds so good. Thanks

Good afternoon! You can substitute plain yogurt, ricotta cheese, marscapone cheese, or heavy cream. Hope this was helpful. :)

Could you please verify the correct amount of bread crumbs to use. Thank you.

Happy Monday! The recipe calls for 1/4 cup of plain bread crumbs and has been updated to reflect that. Thank you for letting us know!

I'm sorry, could you be referring to Mascarpone, rather than Marscapone? Marscapone doesn't exist. I always wonder why people call Mascarpone, Marscapone. Truly it is a simple mistake, but it is a mistake that happens way too often.

Hi Chazz, thanks for pointing out that typo to me. I'll keep an eye out in the future to make sure I spell it correctly. :) Have a great week!

1/4 Tbl breadcrumbs??

That was 1/4 cup, not 1/4 Tbl.

These taste just like the swedish meatballs that my mom used to make. I will be making them again!
