Is there anything better than hand held apple pies that you can take on the go? It's definitely tough to top. Our Mini Apple Hand Pies are the perfect sized treat, not only for the palm of your hand, but for a diabetes-diet! It's so warm and ooey gooey, that it'll comfort you from the inside out. It's a taste of fall you can take with you anywhere. 

What You'll Need

  • 2 Granny Smith apples, cored, peeled, and diced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon light margarine
  • 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts
  • 1 (7.5-ounce) package refrigerated biscuits

What to Do

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. In a medium bowl, combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice; mix well.
  2. In a large skillet, melt margarine over medium heat. Add apple mixture and cook for 5 minutes, or until apples are soft, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in walnuts.
  3. Place biscuits on a flat surface and press with fingertips to flatten. Equally divide the apple mixture into the center of each biscuit. Fold dough over to form a half moon. Using a fork, crimp the edges to seal. Place on baking sheets and bake for 8 to 9 minutes or until golden brown.

You could also use wontons !

I wasn't a big fan of this recipe...I found the biscuit flavor to overwhelm the apples but the filling was very good.

This looks like the perfect kind of dessert to make in the fall!

if you are in a hurry, just use canned apple pie filling!!

this was an awesome snack or dessert. I made them with jumbo biscuits. When done I frosted them with melted caramel topping sprinkled powered sugar on top. The family raved about them served ala mode.

This sounds like a nice low calorie snack. It is not clear on the biscuits being used so they can vary greatly on calories. I usually use Grands reduced fat biscuits so think I'll try those here.
